Their coats are very soft and thin and have a layer of guard hairs that make the coat water resistant. They are very intelligent and characteristically affectionate. They are usually healthy dogs but can have a lot of heredity disorders due to their breeding some of them may suffer hip dysplasia, genetic eye diseases, epilepsy, and skin disorders.
